HON. DOROTEO N. PALCONIT - THE MAN BEHIND CALUBIAN'S TRANSFORMATION

Since his election in May 2010, Hon. Mayor Doroteo "Dodong" Palconit has made significant changes in Calubian's physical appearance. The first transformation can noticeably be seen in the Municipal Hall including offices of the different departments. Not just the mayor's office that has been air conditioned during the previous administration but also all the offices of the different departments making transactions in such offices as more comfortable. A very nice canteen which utilized native costruction materials was constructed to cater the needs of the employees especially that the municipal hall is located away from carenderias and market. The new green color of the municipal building and some nearby structures has given Calubianons the hope of its town's development and advancement.

Other structures that Hon. Palconit's administration has given priorities is the repair of the Calubian Market which is almost finished and the Gymnasium where renovation activities had been started. Hon. Andy Salvacion's congressional funds has helped a lot in this renovation activities of Calubian being very supportive of Hon. Palconit's commitment for Calubian to grow and move forward.

A very visible project Calubianons had seen during the first year of Mayor Dodong Palconit's reign is the street lighting of the Metro Calubian. Great achievement as it is, Calubianons had been given the opportunity to witness the beauty of Calubian during the night aside from suppressing probable illegal activities or accident that may happen in dark streets.

Another project that has been started was the construction of the ABC Hall which is in collaboration with ABC and some other minor projects aside from the support given to the different departments conducting development activities.

  1. sorry but i have ot comment with the last picture above... i dont think there is a need for a barricade to be installed in that particular area. what was the basis of putting it there. it did not beautify the area. those barricades and median only contribute to traffic congestion!
should have put flowering shrubs on big pots instead beside those lamps... i appeal to the municipality, please refer or study urban planning please.

  2. Actually, as of this writing, it has not posted any traffic problems at all. Instead, it has slowly taught our local drivers majority of them are not aware of any traffic rules on how to properly use our road networks and traffic signs.

  3. Ohh. .By the way, you should have posted your identity in this site so that whenever there is planning in the future, you could also share your ideas to make calubian improved and make it a much better place to live in. Anyway, Mayor Palconit welcomes everybody's ideas although he selects best ideas for Calubian's growth.Thank you for sharing your ideas.

  4. and if you are standing in front of the church you will see the cell site towering at the back. it should have been considered prior installing it. it destruct the vista of the place. and why is that that the public gymnasium is located at the end of the property of the school near the residential area along the main road of barangay cabalquinto(which is obviously will create traffic in the future, since this is the only road everyone can access to and thru. the municipality did not anticipate for a parking space and drop off area). and it disturbed (noise pollution) the nearby residents every time there is an event. its original location along the channel was the best... every municipality is always gearing towards to become a city, then urban planning principles should have been considered.

barricades is suitable for heavily-traffic area to protect pedestrians. but that area (as in the picture above)is not.
that area is part of the heart of the town, it should be aesthetically pleasing, of course welfare and safety of the pedestrians should still be considered. barricades is just not the best option.

my identity is not of importance. sorry. i am a calubianun, myself. this is where (calubian)i came from. that is why i care very much for its improvements. hopefully for the upcoming developments we are doing the right improvements.

please keep updates coming. it would be my pleasure sharing my ideas here, for the betterment of our town.

    'till next time.

    thnks for this site.

  5. Very good comment, you have really a vision of a future Calubian. But sometimes, space usage is being compromise just to grab the opportunity for being recipient of such structure, such as the Gym at the high school ground. Actually that gym was in exchange of the right of NFA to use the existing gym near the park as their NFA bodega since it is accessible both by land and sea. But I think the plan was not pushed through although the structure was already constructed, perhaps it was donated to the LGU. Well, it might not be on its proper place but the structure has helped a lot to the school since they lack physical facilities for student use. Well, there are several ideas like planning for possible other access road traversing Elementary and TESDA campus, focusing the reclaimation area within Brgy Cabalquinto and other. The limiting factor for physical development of our municipality is its land area and topography.

  6. gym- yes it serve the students but bad location.

park near a bodega? - very bad idea in terms of proper zoning.

calubian is a coastal area. its people's main livelihood is fishing, reclaiming the shore line has great impact on them.

i already missed the lambay and barinday and the shrimp.

if there will be a reclamation project, the municipality should always have the people's livelihood of utmost consideration.

to boost the economy of calubian, the municipality should consider having a sea terminal. it is where the big bulk of trade sharing and exchange is. perhaps the municipality should find a new location somewhere beyond obispo. since its current location is not strategic and is not effective due to shallow water for big passenger and industrial boat. and it is on the inner portion of the calubian-biliran channel.

  10. Kung gusto kayong pumasok sa PNP, may tama namang proceso dyan. Just comply with the requirements if you are really qualified. Kung kailangan nyo nang recommendation ni Mayor, bakit hindi nyo lapitan personally. Mabuting tao naman ang mayor namin.

  15. Latest information to everyone, road concreting to barangays would be impossible as of this time if we will just rely with the LGU Calubian's budget. However, Hon. Palconit has tried his best to convert Calubian to Jubay road to become a national road so that funds coming from the CDF of Hon Salvacion could be poured to that project. As of this time the move is already positive since Congressman Andy Salvacion has helped Calubianons in converting this road to National road. For products coming from our farmers, we at the Municipal Agriculture Office together with Calubian NGO- CLAD have a proposal to put up a Bagsakan Center where products coming from the farm will be gathered and pooled to a common facility or bodega or cold storage and subsequently distributed to different destinations such as to neighboring towns. Farmers will no longer have time marketing their products, their problem is to produce their production quota since the office will be controlling the production to avoid over-production thereby probably dropping the price.

Anyway, your suggestion is well taken.
